Just a stone’s throw from the beach, you’ll find Brighton’s historic area, The Lanes. It’s in this little neighborhood that you can discover the oldest pub in the whole of B-Town called the Cricketers Arms – literary fans may remember it from Graham Greene’s classic novel ‘Brighton Rock’.
The Lanes is perfect for wandering down the cobbled streets, taking in the sound of the buskers on a lazy afternoon. And it’s here that you’ll also find some amazing independent stores, nestled between designer boutiques and art galleries.
From quaint tea rooms to traditional pubs, and everything in between, this pocket of town is a firm favorite of locals and visitors alike. Oh, and don’t forget to also check out the bohemian North Laine district.

Brighton is a great hub for excellent vegetarian and vegan food, and Food For Friends is an award-winning, long-established veggie restaurant that’s also a favorite among the meatiest of eaters.
Riddle & Finns
It would be rude to visit Brighton and not sample its fresh fish, no? Agreed. And Riddle & Finns is the place to do so. It’s ideal for seafood enthusiasts as well as special occasions, only serving local ingredients cooked by the passionate chefs, creating nourishing and flavorsome dishes to write home about.
Tide
From the team behind Lost In The Lanes, Brighton’s newest street food concept, Tide, proudly features fresh, locally sourced seafood, combined with vibrant side dishes, salads and house sauces.
That little Teashop
Quintessentially British, That Little Teashop, is Brighton’s cosiest spot for a cuppa – that’s cup of Tea to our American cousins. It’s famous for its specialist handmade cakes and afternoon cream teas, which make it the perfect place to relax after a day well spent in the shops.
Kellie Miller Arts
An award winning, contemporary art gallery, the Kellie Miller art gallery features selected works by local, national and international artists. Note that they have three showrooms, which hold a diverse selection of art, ceramics and sculpture.
PHOHM
Taking a sustainable stance to floral design, PHOHM offers a large range of dried floral stems to choose from. You’ll also find everlasting bouquets, wreaths and pre-styled displays, vases and candles. Make sure to check out the variety of workshops, too.
64 Degrees
Serving small plates in an industrial-style space, 64 degrees is owned by Great British Menu winner, chef Michael Bremner. The menu offers exciting dishes that are accessible to all palettes, and if you like a glass (or two) with dinner, this is the place for you – Bremner collaborated with friend and wine expert, Tom Surgey, to create a list that adds flair and vision to elevate every dish.

Championing independent and emerging designers, Our Daily Edit features unique products such as vibrant print dresses from LF Markey, illustrated tees by Etre Cecile and flamingo-inspired heels by Sophia Webster. Former TV producers, Ella Wells and Marc Lewis, are the husband and wife team behind this relaxed and friendly store.

Looking for an elevated pit stop? Look no further. Serving the best coffee and authentic food, this restaurant-coffee shop is found in the heart of this busy neighborhood – it’s the perfect place to people-watch. Although, most of Brighton is great for this, too.
